Factors Hindering Africa’s Continental Advancement

Africa’s lack of advancement in the world can be attributed to several factors, primary of which is the problem of Poverty, Hiv/Aids, and illiteracy. These problems should be tackled to foster economic growth and eradicate over dependency on Western Aid.

The concern of the industrialized countries by giving Aid only serves as a band aid as its people need to address the many problems inherent in Africa. Below, interview with Dina Fafiliou, an Agricultural engineer and a Sociologist, She has worked with the European Union, United Nations and the World Bank as a Consultant on African Development.

Poverty is a phenomenon that affects a greater percentage of the population of Africa. More than 70% of Africa’s poor people live in rural areas and depend on Agriculture for food and livelihood. HIV/Aids is one of Africa’s worst epidemic in recent times. It’s effect on the population of

Africa has become so widespread, that it has erased decades of progress. Today, one person in every family is affected by the disease. Many who are infected need care, and often times, leave behind orphans who can barely cater for their own needs. The resultant affect, is the dramatic impact on the labour force. This in turn, is having a major effect on Africa’s economic development. The South African Ambassador to Greece, Ms, Dona Marasha, spoke on the issue and offered some solutions to curbing the disease. Including interview with the South African ambassador to Greece.
