KENYAN RE-APPOINTS CORRUPTION HEAD
Sep 2nd, 2009 by admin
President Mwai Kibaki has appointed Retired Justice Aaron Ringera for a second five-year mandate as head of Kenya’s anti-corruption agency. The decision came under attack yesterday, with critics arguing Ringera had failed to prosecute senior officials or tackle corruption. Lawyer and former MP Paul Muite alleged the move was illegal as the president had made his appointment before parliament had considered a list of other candidates. Prime Minister Raila Odinga says he was not consulted and his party also condemned the decision. Ringera’s position is better paid than that of President Kibaki and earns the highest salary within the Kenyan government at 34,000 US dollars a month.
