RELIGION IN NIGERIA

Brett, from JESUS Film Project, travelled to Nigeria in April where they showed the Idoma people group the JESUS Film. There are approximately 1-million Idoma people.
The culture, formerly ruled by the British Colonies, still honours their chief by standing and sitting as he does. When addressing the chief, it is customary to kneel or at least be lower than him. That was exactly what Brett did when he shared the Gospel with the chief.
“And after I shared Christ with him, the chief asked for me to write down the prayer, how to pray to receive Christ. The pastors we were working with were very ecstatic. They had told me that meant that he wanted to go pray to receive Christ, kind of in private,” said Brett. They later got word that he has accepted Christ.
Nigeria is generally very nominal, but this chief was very moved just by the gift of a Bible. “He said it was like us giving our lives to him just by giving him a Bible,” said Brett.
Besides the chief, 14,000 people accepted Christ in just ten days.

Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria is known as an extremely religious country but how much the Christian faith has penetrated its villages is in question. Bishop (Dr) George Amu spoke on the role of religion In Nigeria and the people of Idoma; Religion is fundamental to the continuous existence of the Nation, Nigeria. “The people of Idoma had received the necessary Preparation;the ground work had been laid. When the Holy Spirit moves it is always at a time that one cannot predict. It just happened that the ministers From America encountered prepared ground”
WHY DO PEOPLE IDENTIFY WITH RELIGION?
It is the ultimate in human existence.
IN AFRICA, DOES THE BASIC LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE PLAY A ROLE?
No, knowledge is improving. People are getting to know the difference between good and bad. The rush to Christianity is all over the world, it’s the same in America. People accept Christ because there is a Hunger for the truth.
The Bible says if you know the Truth, the truth shall set you free.
