GHANA’S TRIPLE FEMALE VICE- PRESIDENTIAL BID
Nov 27th, 2008 by admin
Three female politicians have scored a first in Ghana. The women have been chosen to represent their parties in the vice-presidential election in two weeks times. Gender activists have warmly welcomed the development although the parties fielding the female candidates have only slim chances of winning. They will be representing small parties with little hope of taking the second highest office. The three leading political parties, the ruling New Patriotic Party, the National Democratic Congress and the Convention People’s Party had considered female candidates for the vice-presidential position but in the end stuck with men. In Ghana, 11 per cent of Parliamentary seats and just fewer than 16 percent of ministerial posts are held by women.
