DARFUR WAR OVER SAY PEACEKEEPERS

The conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan is over, according to the commander of the joint forces of the United Nations and the African Union. Martin Agwai told reporters this week the area no longer faces a civil war as most rebel groups and militias have disbanded. He said crime and banditry are now the biggest challenges. Agwai’s evaluation comes months after the head peac mission in Darfur, Rodolphe Adada described the situation as a low-intensity conflict. Both Mr Agwai and Mr Adada leave their posts in Sudan at the end of August.
