AFRICA LACKS CLIMATE CHANGE DATA

Africa does not have enough information about the impact of climate change on its water supplies, according to experts. Scientists from around the continent are gathered this week in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the second Africa Water Week organised by the African Ministerial Council. They argue that it is essential for the continent to collect information about its water resources at local, national, regional and trans-boundary levels. The research manager of the South African Water Research Commission, Chris Moseki, explained that a lack of analytical tools – such as software for the analysis and mapping of information from the field – means that there is a great disparity in data availability between different African countries.
