AID WORKERS RETREAT IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
Dec 2nd, 2009 by admin
Several international aid agencies have ordered their workers in north eastern Central African Republic (CAR) to move to the capital because of security concerns. Humanitarian officials said the retreat followed recent clashes between rebel groups and government forces and the kidnapping of aid workers in the area. A previously unknown group, African Free Eagles, has said it is holding two aid workers from the French relief agency, Triangle, and one French agronomist from the International Committee of the Red Cross. The group claims it is targeting French nationals to force France to change its policies on Africa. It allegedly wants France to push a Darfur rebel leader living in Paris to attend Sudanese peace talks, as well as arranging talks between the president of Chad and opposition leaders.
