CLIMATE TALKS RESUME
Dec 15th, 2009 by admin
Negotiations at the United Nations‘ climate change summit being held in Copenhagen have resumed after a halt yesterday. Early on Monday a group of African nations, supported by the wider G77 bloc of developing countries, stepped out of the talks in protest against alleged attempts by the Danish hosts to sideline discussions on a binding agreement regarding greenhouse emission cuts. The suspension ended hours later, after the developing countries’ demand to ensure separate talks on the Kyoto Protocol was met. Blocs advocating for developing countries in Copenhagen have been keen on securing rich nations’ commitment to emission cuts targets beyond 2012 under the Kyoto Protocol. World leaders are expected to attend the summit this week ahead of its final session on Friday.
