Reaching Your Goal

“Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale” told over and over again.” So as the year gradually comes to an end, we cannot help but wonder at how well we have performed and remember gains and definitely low points. Nevertheless with hindsight it’s now death to procrastination that may have played a major role in the goals set for the outgoing year. Just this past week, a friend made a powerful point that has continued to resonate with me. Her point, focuses on the need to set different types of goals daily, monthly and yearly. Every goal is unique because its purpose is to fulfill a need. So, what happens when the unexpected happens and one suddenly finds himself hitting rock-bottom the very next minute?
When this occurs there is no time to sit down and make plans because emotions turn roller coaster either with regrets or simply sadness. Irrespective of our class or position, life happens to everyone but we can make it happen for us and if truth be told it is a journey that will direct you to the answers if you leave the questions to the creator. Even though leaving things for that elusive moment may be the desire of many and of course easy thing to do. The key is remembering that life is a stage. As such “readiness is all” because the future is uncertain and not guaranteed.
Every goal with its purpose is not always fulfilled at the set time because we procrastinate, thinking we have all the time, time to cultivate new relationships, time to set up a new business, make more money, take that trip etc. We think we have all the time in the world to start living right and make the right decisions, start eating right. Then again, one often asks rhetorical questions such as when will my life really begin or when do I make a change from my bad habits? We tend to forget that what is promised is just the moment, the future if it happens, thankfully must be to just please God. As each day goes by “like the waves make towards the pebbled shore, so do our minutes, hasten to their end.”
So, as the year comes to an end, it is imperative to ponder on what category we place targets that have not been met either physically, financially, emotionally or spiritually. The formulae is to simply write them out again, stick them where you can see them every day, then take action. The only way we can move forward is to take the plunge to bring about a change in us. Therefore as we move ahead with getting them done, our priority must be the realization that all we have is now, as eternal life is promised only by God in his Kingdom, which is not an earthly one.
As such the moments we have to make plans are crucial as the center point is God who turns the hands of the clock whichever way he wants. We can only seek his face through our prayers. God forbid, that as we get on the driver’s seat of our lives, without God navigating, that accidents that will altogether stop or cripple us should occur.
However as we make our goals lets continue to dream of a better tomorrow and a better world for the less less privileged around us. For truth is without our dreams and set goals, we are limited.
