Forty million young people aged between 18 and 25 in Nigeria are unemployed according to new figures from the World Bank. Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Productivity, Adetokunbo Kayode said it was regrettable that the Nigerian economy had grown in the past eight years but the country’s earnings had not translated into jobs. The education minister also attributed the trend to poor quality teaching in Nigerian universities, saying only 20 per cent of Nigerian graduates are employable. The Nigerian government has responded by arranging a national summit to address the problems raised by the World Bank.
