OXFAM: G8 SHOULD UP FARM AID
Jul 2nd, 2009 by admin
Aid group Oxfam has urged G8 leaders to increase investment in agriculture in poor countries. A new report by the group says agricultural assistance fell from 20 billion US dollars in the 1980s to around five billion a year in 2007. Investment is being urged after the crisis in food prices led to increased hunger, malnutrition and the risk of social unrest in poor countries. On top of that, Oxfam claims years of underinvestment have led to stagnating yields, degraded lands and a scarcity of fresh water in many nations.
