A new report has named Africa as the continent with the world’s highest birth rate. A joint report by the US government’s aid agency (USAID) and the NGO Population Reference Bureau claims Africa’s population is growing by about 24 million a year. It estimates one billion people are currently living in Africa, and the number is set to double by 2050. The report says on average a woman in Sub-Saharan Africa has 5.3 children in comparison to global average of 2.6 children. The report also reveals that sub-Saharan Africa has the world’s most youthful population, and it is projected to remain that way for decades.
