ANNAN PUSHES FOR KENYA REFORMS
Oct 5th, 2009 by admin
Former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan is on a three day trip to Kenya to urge the government to carry out political reforms. The measures were agreed after over 1,000 people were killed in a violence last year which followed disputed presidential elections. Mr Annan has called for the country to have a new constitution within 18 months. He will also push for the organisers of the violence to face justice. The country failed to meet a September 30th deadline to set up a local tribunal. Debate continues as to whether organisers and perpetrators of the killings should face trial at the UN court in The Hague.
