Corruption

A while ago, fake drugs manufactured by a Chinese firm were imported into this country. Six Chinese nationals involved in the manufacture of the fake antimalarials shipped to Nigeria were sentenced to death in December 2009. nothing happened to the person who imported it into Nigeria. “An example of our attitude to corruption in Nigeria.
Corruption is a silent monster that has eaten into every system in the country. Therefore, until something severe is done, Nigeria will not move forward. What is sad is the devourer has continued to match to greatness. On a daily basis, corrupt acts are reported but after the brouhaha, it is swept under the carpet. So many stories abound of influential Nigerian citizens and their corrupt practices but the acts are committed by the rich and powerful so they get off the hook easily.
It has become incorporated into a structured and well-established system in the country that nobody blinks when news of corrupt practices makes news. At the moment, it is the $620,000 bribe now in the House of Representatives, Zenon boss Femi Otedola says the Chairman of the of the fuel subsidy probe committee, Lawan Farouk, collected bribes worth $620,000 in cash from him, all recorded on audio tape and video. I will not go into details as to why the incident was filmed by one of the parties in the first place as the main question is how will the drama unfold?
The real question, to me is not who or how it all began but the attitude and views of the populace. How we react as the investigation unfolds will be important in determining the factors that will move this country towards a change. It will be about our choices, the choice to react either negatively or positively.
Nigerians must be sure that the truth be told and that the evil cycle does not continue. My desire to write about this is to let Nigerians allow themselves to feel and understand that the process is about us. It is our civic duty to take this issue personally. Personal, it must be, because this is about creating a better tomorrow and consciously holding our leaders accountable for their actions.
